Unfortunately, in the last 5 days my horses have been in the barn. First we had snow, then we had over 3 inches of solid ice and it was dangerous for people to walk outside. Our barn doors were froze shut and took hours to get in. The snow had drifted up against the doors that night and then came the ice! The dogs struggled not to splay their legs when going out. We broke ice in areas and salted just so the dogs had a potty area, and sometimes it was too cold for the salt to work, but we did not take the horses out because we could not clear enough space for them, and there was no safe footing. The hospitals were even full of injured people who tried to navigate the ice.
