Does Hawthorne’s Ice-O-Poultice poultice cause burns?

Mar 26, 2013 | FAQs, Ice-O-Poultice

No, it should not burn. The burn horse owners sometimes talk about is like a chemical burn and scurffing (flaky skin) usually occuring with the possibility of hair loss, sensitive skin and even swelling. Some of the medicated poultices on the market today will blister if they are combined with other products or on already sensitive skin. And, some horses are allergic to certain ingredients and will have a reaction or even blister. The burn is much like sunburn but caused by chemical reactions. Hawthorne’s Ice-O-Poultice is made so that it will not burn.
